Many learners read Vietnamese well because it uses the Latin alphabet, then struggle to understand people speaking. Regular calls with native speakers train your ear for tones and for the differences between northern and southern accents.
How a Vietnamese practice call works
- Matched by level, from beginner to fluent.
- A swap timer shares the call between Vietnamese and your language.
- Text chat to see the exact tone marks of a new word.
- Topic cards about food, family, cities and work.

A note on "you" and "I"
Vietnamese chooses words for "you" and "I" based on age and relationship. With a language partner your age, bạn and mình are friendly and safe. Ask your partner which they prefer: it's a great way to start talking about Vietnamese culture.
